I searched into my english dictionary, here is what I found:
odds n, pl sometimes treated as sing : inequality; difference in favour of one against another; the amount or proportion by which the bet of one exceeds that of another; chance or probability; advantage; dispute; scraps.
I think in our text the meaning is the one of inequality. Tell me what you think about it.
